Legislation Governing Computer Use

As a computer user, do you approve of an ordering principle, in the form of legislation, being formulated and enforced to govern computer use? Why? Why not?

Computer has many uses in our lives.  They make our life easier, chatting with your friends in the internet without going out. They make our life faster, instead of going to library, sit in front of your computer and search for your assignment. In this world and year 2012, most people are now computer literate and they know how to use the computer. But now a day, some people abuse the use of computer. So, as a computer student, I approve to have a principle in the form of legislation governing Computer Use. Of course there is a 100% advantage of having legislation. One, It will control and regulate the use of computer. Two, we will know the do and don’ts. Three, we will know our limitation of using the computer.  And much more

What Predominates in the World of Computing

For me, the ARISTOTLE'S NICOMACHEAN ETHICS predominate in the world of computing. First let's define the theory.  According to www.nd.edu/~afreddos/courses/180/nicomach.htm, “Every art and every inquiry, and similarly every action and choice, is thought to aim at some good.”  What is the chief good we aim at? The answer is Happiness and that is Happiness is the complete and sufficient good for a human being.  Or Happiness is simply the pleasure, which refers to the physical enjoyment. In a Computing World, Hacking is much known worldwide and in every nation. Some examples are hacking of password, hacking some information of a System and there are such more… Why do they hack? It’s their freedom and they can do whatever they want and of course for pleasure. For them, it’s pleasurable and they can be benefited. They hack because of Money and Money = Happiness.

Preliminary Theories

A. Morally good under all circumstances

SURFING THE INTERNET

Surfing the Internet is considered morally good under all circumstances If you surf the net, it doesn’t mean that you are focusing only to the social network like Facebook, Twitter and much more. Surfing the net is like going to library, I mean searching for your assignment or research work. In library, we search books through reading and getting some good ideas about our research, but sometimes we are not satisfied for it. In the Internet, we browse the net to find out more satisfying ideas that can fill up what's bothering in our curious minds. In net, you can find out many good and satisfying answers in our research for a specific topic. And also, while surfing the net, you can learn anything.

B. Morally bad under all circumstances

PORNOGRAPHY

Pornography is considered morally bad under all circumstances. Morally bad especially for minors and for people who doesn’t have a sense of responsibility. I myself visit some Porn site and I observed that there are no precautions or warnings to web users of this kind. Not all people surfing the net are adults, there are also Children and teens which is under 18 years old. Children and teens that are exposed to pornography have these images etched in their memories for the rest of their lives. These images can be triggered and can surface without warning, leaving the potential for numerous problems in future life. Internet pornography is often the first exposure that children and teens have to sexual

C. Morally good/bad under all circumstances

 SOFTWARE PIRACY

Software Piracy is considered good/bad under all circumstances. Copying asoftware using  is very easy but if you are the owner of that software and they just copied it without authorization? Are you happy? Of course not!  But in every rule, there is always an exemption. In school, if you have a laboratory session and you need to install a software, of course you will all not buy that software instead sharing the software to install is good.
